In this series, Selections, we invite DJs, producers and label heads to dig into their digital crates and share the contents of their Bandcamp collections. While hearing new music played out by your favourite selectors has been put on hold as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s never been easier, or more important, to support the artists and imprints releasing tracks, albums, EPs and comps in the midst of all the madness. In lieu of opportunities to discover new records on the dancefloor, Selections will give you the chance to nab sounds from the crates of tastemakers, and support the people behind them while you’re at it. Win-win, right?
This week, Melbourne’s CC:DISCO! spotlights groovy dancefloor dreamscapes and vintage vibes. A member of the city’s Soothsayer label family, and a wicked selector in her own right with a taste for balearic groove, radiant house and disco and hip-swinging boogie, the DJ has curated her second compilation for the imprint, which is out today.
The 24- track ‘First Light (Volume II)’ comp follows the series’ 2018 debut, and features tracks from local artists and Soothsayer affiliates, alongside producers from around the world. Styles range from drifting ambience and balearic haze into italo disco euphoria and tough house and disco grooves. Contributions to the collection come from artists including Pépe, Donald's House & Lipelis, Jenifa Mayanja, Steady Weather, Munir, Tech Support, Regularfantasy, Mr. Ho and more. You can buy it here.

“Space Ghost from Oakland California legit has some tunes. The production on this is just so dreamy with a good nod to early ‘90s house and late ‘80s boogie. These are the kinds of tunes you can really get lost in on a packed dance floor at 5am with your eyes closed.”
“Let me take you into the world of Jenifa. Her productions are like no other. There is so much out there it's hard to pick any favourites. ‘Time Waits For No One’ has this beautiful energy, a track you play at full peak to really get people locked into a groove and feeling the fuck out of life.”
“The original is great but, for some of us, anything over 135 bpm gives me proper prangin’ anxiety and I can't dance. The two step dance doesn't work for me. I need to move them hips. Roza has taken this track and worked a groove back in there giving it a whole new lease of life. Proper vibe on this remix.”
“So my mate and all round excellent human Moxie put me on to this, and it's such a vibe. Released in 2020 , this is one to drive around late at night with windows down, scream-singing to it.”
“Let's just get it out of the way, I'm obsessed with his music! By far my most listened to artist on Spotify. The songwriting and the production is so damn good and when you get to the sweet spot at 2:20 you just float away to the happiest place ever.”
“OK, so we played a gig together in 2019, and when he played this I lost it and was straight up begging for a Track ID and turned out it was his. It's straight up made for a ‘80s video game with a tough-yet-femme edge. You get that femme edge when those pads come in at 4:29. Believe me, this on a big system is worth the buy.”
“Get some sax into ya!!! This whole album is one to go check out, if you love dreamy ‘80s music then this is for you. Proper good stuff by the european duo.”
“Out last year on the naive comp it was the real stand out for me. If you want the biggest club banger ever then check this one. Out of Lisbon, Portugal she's flying flag high for a city that often gets overlooked but believe me there's a thriving as hell rave producer scene there. Dig deeper into the Portugal underground ASAP.”
“This track got me real good when I first heard it. Slick productions and an ‘80s vibe: it's got everything you need to have people frothing to this on the dancefloor. Also one of those perfect intro track vibes for a set.”
“I don't even know where to start here. Making modern boogie is hard, and to sound authentic without it coming across as cheesy is even harder! Check this out and I rest my case. Pull this out at 6am in the morning and see everyone smile and light up. Wanye's music is just mind blowing, and those vocals! It gets me every time with the proper feels.”
